Quality and standards

Our standards: how we check, sign off and deliver

Every report, calculation and drawing we issue goes through set checks before it reaches you. This page explains them.

Inspection reports signed off by a chartered engineer

Every structural inspection report we issue, from a specific structural inspection report (SSI) to a general structural inspection (GSI) or a subsidence report for insurers, is reviewed and signed off by a chartered engineer who is a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE).

That matters because the people who read your report, such as a lender, a solicitor, an insurer or Building Control, need to know that a qualified, accountable engineer stands behind its findings and recommendations.

Designs and calculations: three-step quality control

Structural calculations and drawings go through a three-step quality control process before they are issued, with final sign-off by our Head of Engineering. Nothing leaves the office on the strength of one person's check.

This applies to everything from steel beam calculations for a wall removal and loft conversion packages to underpinning and new-build structural design. If Building Control or a builder raises a query, we answer it and issue revisions through the same process.

Fixed fees and clear timescales

Every job starts with a fixed fee confirmed in writing before any work starts, so you know the cost before you commit. Guide prices for all our services are published on our service pages and in the full guide to structural engineer costs.

Our typical turnaround is 10 working days from instruction, confirmed in writing with your fee. Where a job needs to move faster, for example a dangerous structure or a builder waiting on site, tell us and we will say honestly what is possible.

What you receive

Depending on the service, you receive some or all of the following:

  • A written report with photographs, findings and clear recommendations
  • Structural calculations ready for Building Control
  • Marked-up or full structural drawings your builder can price and build from
  • Answers to Building Control and builder queries on the work we designed
  • Site inspections at key stages where they form part of the service

Where we work and what we work on

We work across all 33 London councils and the counties around the M25. You can find local information on our area pages, from London boroughs to Surrey, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Essex and Kent.

Our work covers houses, flats, conversions and mixed-use buildings up to 15 metres and five storeys: inspections, extensions, lofts, wall removals, basements, foundations, cracks and movement, drainage and party wall structural input.

If something is not right

If you are unhappy with any part of our service, email info@greencodeholdings.com or call 020 8004 4464 and ask for the engineer who led your job or our Head of Engineering. We will look into it, explain what happened and put it right where we can.
