How we work

How appointments work

A written fee before anything starts, and a clear issue at each stage, so you, your architect, builder and Building Control know what you are working from.

Step 1

Send the details

The address, what you need and any deadline, with drawings or photos if you have them. We reply within 2 working hours.

Step 2

Agree scope and fee

A fixed fee, what it covers and the delivery date, confirmed in writing before any work starts.

Step 3

Inspection or design

We can usually inspect within 48 hours. Design starts once we have the information we need.

Step 4

Check and issue

Reports signed off by a chartered engineer (CEng MICE); designs through three-step quality control. Reports within 5 working days of the visit.

Step 5

Further support

Building Control queries, contractor questions and site inspections, where you commission them.

Why “green code”

Sustainability is part of the design, not an add-on

As part of Green Code Holdings and its net-zero initiative, we think about the materials and carbon in a structure from the first sketch. The greenest structure is usually the one that is already standing.

  • Members sized to the load, not to habit
  • Repair and strengthening considered before replacement
  • Timber and lower-carbon options offered where they suit the scheme
Our order of preference
  1. 1Retain and reuse what is already there
  2. 2Build less: efficient spans and lighter loads
  3. 3Choose lower-carbon materials
  4. 4Design for future adaptation and reuse

The earlier steps usually save the most carbon and the most money.
