Inspection, drain repairs and design revision
A structural site inspection with advice on the spot, a CCTV drain survey and repairs, then a revised structural design to suit what was found.
The project
This Fulham project combines a structural site inspection with advice on the spot, a CCTV drain survey with images and video, drain repairs carried out to the report, and a revised structural design to suit what was found. The brief is to keep the project moving: diagnose what is there, repair what needs repairing, and make sure the design matches the building as it really is.
Projects in period houses often change once work begins and the building is better understood. A site inspection and drain survey can reveal conditions that the original design did not anticipate, because they could not be seen at the time. When that happens, the structural design needs revising so the builder works from drawings based on the real building rather than early assumptions.
What we did
- Structural site inspection with verbal advice
- CCTV drain scan with images and video
- Drain remedial works to the report
- Structural design revision
Adapting the design to what was found
We carry out a structural site inspection and give advice on the spot, so decisions can be made without waiting for a written report. A CCTV drain scan then records the drains with images and video, giving a clear record of their condition, and the drain repairs are carried out to that report. Defective drains are worth putting right before new structure goes in, because leaks can affect the ground that foundations rely on.
With the findings in hand, we revise the structural design to suit. Revisions keep the calculations and drawings in line with the building as it actually is, which matters for Building Control and for the builder on site. Our structural engineering in Hammersmith and Fulham covers many period homes where this kind of adjustment is part of the job.
Why designs are revised during a project
- Site inspections can reveal conditions not visible at design stage
- Drain surveys show defects that need repair before building
- Revised designs keep calculations matched to the building
- Building Control needs drawings that reflect the work
Planning something similar?
Finding something unexpected on site is normal in older buildings. The key is to adjust the design promptly and keep the paperwork current, so Building Control sign-off is not delayed. Our site inspection with verbal advice gets an engineer on site quickly to help you decide what to do next.
