Parking design and management plan
A parking design and management plan supporting the change of use of a house.

The project
This Hillingdon project supports the change of use of a house with a parking design and management plan. The brief is to give the council clear evidence on how parking will work once the house is in its new use, so that parking does not become the reason an application stalls. Not every engineering question on a conversion is structural, and highways input is often what a planning officer asks for first.
A change of use can mean more occupants and, potentially, more cars. Councils need to understand how the site will accommodate them and how pressure on surrounding streets will be managed. An accurate, Matterport-generated plan of the existing ground floor, with room sizes, gave a reliable base for the work and for understanding how the house and its frontage relate to each other.
What we did
- Parking layout and management plan
- Supporting report for the planning application
Planning parking for a change of use
We prepare a parking layout that shows how vehicles can be accommodated on the site, taking account of the space available and how cars move in and out. The management plan then explains how spaces will be allocated and managed in practice, which helps the council judge the likely effect of the change of use on surrounding streets and neighbours.
The supporting report brings this together for the planning application. Councils often want evidence on parking before they approve a change of use, and a clear, practical plan answers that directly. Where a conversion also involves structural work, such as new openings or floor checks, the same team can cover both. Our engineering work in Hillingdon includes structural and civil projects like this.
Why parking matters in a change of use
- More occupants can mean more cars on the site and street
- Councils often ask for parking evidence before approval
- A management plan explains how spaces are allocated
- An accurate plan of the house supports the layout
Planning something similar?
Parking can be a deciding factor for a change of use, so it is worth addressing before the application goes in rather than after an objection. If the council has raised parking concerns, our parking survey or parking stress report provides the evidence needed to support the application.
